Modus ("we", "us") provides an AI co-founder tool at themodus.app. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, and your rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By using Modus you agree to this policy.
Who we are
Modus is an early-stage product based in Greece. For any privacy question, contact us at hello@themodus.app.
What we collect
- Account data — your name and email address when you sign up (or via Google sign-in).
- Your startup profile — details you choose to add (startup name, market, country, stage, notes).
- Conversations — the messages you exchange with Modus, and files you choose to upload for analysis.
- Usage data — basic counts (e.g. messages per month) to enforce free-plan limits, plus standard analytics.
Why we use it (legal basis)
- To provide the service — store your chats, remember your startup, generate responses (performance of a contract).
- To keep it secure and within fair-use limits (legitimate interest).
- To improve the product — using aggregated or anonymised usage data, and reviewing individual conversations only where needed to debug issues or ensure safety. If you opt in (Settings → Data & Privacy), we may also review your conversations, anonymised, to improve Modus — this is off by default and you can turn it off any time (legitimate interest / consent).
Who can see your conversations
- Other users — never. Each account is isolated; no user can ever see another user's conversations or data.
- You. Your conversations are private to your account and available to you any time in the app.
- Our team — limited. A small number of authorised people may access stored data when strictly necessary to operate the service, provide support, fix problems, or meet legal obligations. We do not browse conversations out of curiosity.
- Anthropic. Your messages are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. Anthropic processes them to return an answer and does not use API data to train its models.
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use your conversations to train AI models.
Service providers we use
We share data only with trusted providers needed to run Modus:
- Supabase — database, authentication and storage.
- Vercel — hosting.
- Anthropic — the AI model that generates responses. Your messages are processed to produce answers, and are not used to train AI models.
- Resend — transactional & product emails.
- Google — optional sign-in and website analytics.
Some providers may process data outside the EU; where they do, they rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. We do not sell your personal data.
Data retention
We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently deleted.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can access, correct, export or delete your data, and object to certain processing. Inside the app you can export your data (JSON) and delete your account at any time from Settings → Data & Privacy. You may also email us at hello@themodus.app, and you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, and analytics cookies to understand usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
Children
Modus is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll update the date above and, for material changes, notify you.
